![]() ![]() Just trying to understand why the file sizes are what they are.Īnd why was 4096K pretty much the max size? I know games like Star Ocean did bigger games, but was the size 4096K really the normal max for the SNES system? Like why can't you have a game that is 3GB (giga bytes) in size and have it run on the SNES? I think this has to do with something called bank switching, but I don't really understand that concept. So what would happen if you made a game that was of size 553K? Would this crash the SNES or something? For example 2^x for x an positive integer. I also think all of these sizes are of a power of 2. Were the sizes dependent upon the rom chip sizes that were available? If you had a game and it didn't meet one of these file sizes did the developers have to expand the size of their game so that it took up the majority of the chip when the factory burned the rom onto the chip for the cartridge? So why am I listing these sizes? Well I'm trying to understand why the majority of the SNES were these particular sizes. Thank you for all of your support throughout the years - CoolROM will continue strong. So I've looked at several of the officially licensed SNES roms and I see patterns with their file sizes. We feel we have reached this goal and helped cure more cases of nostalgia than we could have ever imagined. From the very beginning, our goal was to allow users to re-live classic moments from video games that they have lost and cannot purchase anymore. We are very grateful to have served the emulation community for so many years and to have CoolROM still exist today. ![]() This page has been removed due to a request from Nintendo of America Inc. ![]()
